Mike Harris
Mike Harris has been a director of Egg since 29 October
1999. He joined Prudential as Chief Executive Officer of
Prudential Banking plc in July 1995 and the Egg division
from October 1998. On 1 January 2001 he stepped down as
Chief Executive and took on the role of Executive Vice-Chairman
of the Board.
Before joining Prudential, he served for four years as
a main board director of Cable and Wireless, one of the
UK's largest public companies. He grew Mercury profits from
£100 million to £219 million and turnover rose from under
£1 billion to around £1.7billion per annum. He negotiated
the sale of 20% of Mercury to Bell Canada Enterprises and
built a partnership with Cable TV Industry culminating in
the flotation of Bell Cable Media. He co-stewarded with
Dick Callahan of US West to launch a new mobile telephone
company (One-2-One).
Before this Mike was Chief Executive of First Direct, where
he completed implementation and launch of what was essentially
the first new bank in the UK for many years, building a
new brand in the process. He had managed the business through
successful high growth - 200,000 accounts and 600 staff
by the end of 1991.
CMI
CMI - the Cambridge-MIT Institute - has had a presence
at Adastral Park since 2001. The CMI "distinguished lecture"
series features world-class speakers talking by video link
to locations around the world on a range of topics under
the general heading "innovation at the boundaries". Further
information about CMI and the series is available from http://www.cmi.cam.ac.uk/
but please note that if you are based at Adastral Park and
attending a Park venue, you should NOT reserve seats through
the normal CMI route: seats are available on a first-come,
first-serve basis.
